It started with an empty notebook and a simple decision to try something new.

I had heard about Scripture writing during the COVID shutdown and thought, “Why not?” I didn’t expect much from it. In fact, I assumed I would quit after a few weeks like so many other projects I had started.

But something unexpected happened when I began slowly writing out Bible verses by hand.

I noticed words I had rushed past before. Verses that once felt familiar suddenly felt personal. Instead of skimming Scripture for information, I was lingering long enough to hear what God was saying.

Then I started turning those verses into prayers.

A verse about peace became a prayer for anxious moments. A passage about trust became a conversation with God about surrender. Scripture stopped feeling distant and began shaping my everyday life.

One of the greatest benefits of Scripture writing is that it slows you down. In a world filled with distraction, writing even a few verses helps quiet the noise and focus your heart on God’s Word.

If you want to begin, keep it simple:

📖 Choose one verse or short passage.
✍️ Write it slowly by hand.
🔍 Underline repeated words or phrases.
🙏 Turn the verse into a personal prayer.
💡 Ask: What does this teach me about God? About myself?

You do not need a fancy journal or a perfect study method. A blank notebook is enough for God to begin doing deep work in your heart.

Sometimes transformation begins with something small, simple, and faithful.

Need help to get started? I have written Scripture Writing plans with guided prayer prompts to help. I have plans for writing through the New Testament with my Alpha and Omega series. Check them out in my Etsy Store.
