Christ is the 5th C of History. If you haven’t had a chance to read the other articles in this series:

Throughout the Old Testament, we read passages that allude to Christ. The first one is in Genesis 3:15, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

According to www.gotquestions.org, “By some counts, more than 300 Old Testament prophecies point to Jesus Christ and were fulfilled by Him in His life on earth. These include prophecies about His unique birth (Isaiah 7:14), His earthly ministry (Isaiah 61:1), and even the way He would die (Psalm 22). Jesus shocked the religious establishment when He stood up in the synagogue of Nazareth and read from Isaiah 61, concluding with this commentary: “This scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing today” (Luke 4:18–21).”

In the story of Isaac, we see a father obeying God’s commandment to take his son and place him on the altar. Isaac questions Abraham about the sacrifice. We read his response in Genesis 22:8, “Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.” God provided the lamb for Abraham. God would once again provide the lamb for the ultimate sacrifice for sin once and for all.

We can also see Christ in the design of the tabernacle. I teach a Bible Study at my church and we just finished the book of Revelation. One of the many symbolic examples in that book is the design of the tabernacle.  The altar reminds us of our sin and why we need a Savior. The brazen altar was in the original Tabernacle but it is not in the book of Revelation. Christ has become the sacrifice for our sins. There is no need for the brazen altar because the price has been paid. This is confirmed in 1 Peter 2:24,  “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”

According to www.gotquqestions.org, “The laver shows Jesus as providing the water of life (John 4:14). Inside the Holy Place, the lampstand is suggestive of Jesus as the light of the world (John 9:5). The table of showbread is Jesus as the bread of life (John 6:35). In the altar of incense is seen Jesus as our heavenly intercessor, continually offering prayers for us (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25).

According to Hebrews 10:20, the veil before the ark of the covenant is a picture of Jesus’ human flesh.”

God provided a way for us to spend eternity with Him in heaven and it is Jesus and Jesus alone. There is no other way. John 14:6 says, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Do you know Jesus? Will he say that He knows you?
